Natasha Poppen

Natasha Poppen completed a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts at LaTrobe University in 2021. She has also attained a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from Leo Cussen Centre for Law.

Whilst completing her studies, Natasha worked as a Paralegal at Maurice Blackburn Lawyers. She also completed two competitive clerkships at the Office of Public Prosecutions and at a commercial firm. Natasha was a passionate advocate during her studies, winning multiple mooting competitions and representing LaTrobe University at the 28th Willem C. Vis International Moot.

Natasha completed her graduate year at the Office of Public Prosecutions, before being admitted to practice in 2023. She has a wealth of knowledge and experience prosecuting serious indictable crime in the County Court and the Supreme Court of Victoria, which strongly informs her practice as a defence solicitor.

Natasha works across a range of indictable files, including sex offences, injury offences, property, drugs and firearm offences, and restraining order matters under the Confiscation Act 1997 (Vic). Her mooting background has also fostered a special interest in advocacy work, and she regularly appears for clients in criminal matters and intervention order matters in the Magistrates’ Courts across Victoria. She firmly believes in advocating for her clients to avoid the stigma of a criminal record, and regularly negotiates with prosecutors to achieve fair outcomes.

Natasha has a particular interest in WorkSafe Victoria prosecutions and regularly appears on behalf of companies charged with offences under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic).

Natasha enjoys mentorship from a range of senior legal professionals. She also mentors law students in her spare time. She is currently a member of the Law Institute of Victoria, Women in Crime and Victorian Women Lawyers.
