Senior Associate
Natasha Poppen completed a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts at LaTrobe University. She has also attained a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from Leo Cussen Centre for Law.
Whilst completing her studies, Natasha completed two competitive clerkships at the Office of Public Prosecutions and at a commercial firm. She completed her graduate year at the Office of Public Prosecutions in 2022, before being admitted to practice in 2023. Natasha has a wealth of knowledge and experience prosecuting serious indictable offences in the County Court and the Supreme Court of Victoria, which strongly informs her practice as a defence solicitor.
Natasha works across a range of state and Commonwealth matters, including sex offences and offences involving injury, property, drugs and firearms. As a passionate advocate, she regularly appears on behalf of her clients in criminal matters and intervention order matters in the Magistrates’ Courts across Victoria. She firmly believes in advocating for her clients to avoid the stigma of a criminal record, and regularly negotiates with prosecutors to achieve fair outcomes.
Natasha has had particular success in defending clients facing regulatory prosecutions and professional misconduct proceedings in the VCAT. Natasha also represents clients in VCAT appeals against decisions of the Department of Government Services not to issue Working With Children clearances. She was the solicitor on record in the matter of EQK v Secretary to the Department of Government Services (Review and Regulation) [2024] VCAT 633, in which the firm achieved an incredible outcome for the client.
Natasha has a particular interest in WorkSafe Victoria prosecutions and often appears on behalf of companies and individuals charged with offences under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 (Vic).
Natasha enjoys mentorship from a range of senior legal professionals. She also mentors law students in her spare time. She is currently a member of the Law Institute of Victoria, Women in Crime and Victorian Women Lawyers.
