Associate Solicitor

Alex Schwarcz graduated from Deakin University in 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts (Criminology and Journalism) and a Bachelor of Laws. Since completing his Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from The College of Law later that year and being admitted, he has worked in the criminal law.

After being admitted, he worked as a solicitor at the Office of Public Prosecutions where he was responsible for carriage of a range of indictable prosecutions, including those under the Serious Offenders Act 2018.

He was then Associate to the Honourable Justice Lasry, a pre-eminent jurist and former high profile criminal defence barrister who was pivotal in the anti-death penalty movement. Alex was subsequently Associate to Judicial Registrar Freeman who was responsible for case managing the most serious criminal matters prosecuted by the State.

Alex joined Galbally Parker in 2024. He frequently appears in the Magistrates’ Court in summary, indictable and intervention order matters and works on complicated indictable matters in the County Court, Supreme Court and Court of Appeal. He strives to provide his clients with high quality advocacy and clear advice.

In his short time at Galbally Parker, he has had particular success in having charges withdrawn against his clients in the Magistrates’ Court. Since joining the firm, a large number his clients have had all of their charges withdrawn and struck out. He has also acted for a number of clients, who applied for bail in the Supreme Court and Magistrates’ Court (all of whom were granted bail) as well as instructing in complex committal matters and trials. Alex also regularly advises clients in relation to WorkSafe prosecutions, regulatory prosecutions and working with children checks.

Having prosecuted on behalf of the State and worked for the Court, Alex’s wealth of experience gives him a unique set of skills to provide advice to and represent persons in serious and difficult circumstances. These include assisting in large and complex conviction appeals in the Court of Appeal as well as trial matters n the courts below.

Away from work, Alex is an avid lifesaver. He is an active patroller and the Secretary at Fairhaven Surf Life Saving Club and a member of Life Saving Victoria’s Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.
